The Limpkin (also called "carrao", "courlan", "crying bird"), Aramus guarauna, is a bird that looks like a large rail (external link) but is skeletally closer to cranes (external link). It is the only (external link) extant (external link) species in the genus Aramus and the family (external link) Aramidae. It is found mostly in wetlands in warm parts of the Americas (external link), from Florida (external link) to northern Argentina (external link). It feeds on molluscs (external link), with the diet dominated by apple snails (external link) of the genus Pomacea (external link). Its name derives from its seeming limp when it walks
