I'm thinking about making the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM my next purchase. I love my setup so far, but at times 70mm can feel short on FF. It makes sense to me to extend my focal range and make me more versatile as a photographer. The price does scare me a bit, but from everything I hear it's worth every penny.

Also on my list are:
TS-E 45mm f/2.8 (hoping for an L version update)
EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM
Carl Zeiss 50mm f/2.0 T* Makro-Planar
Carl Zeiss 100mm f/2.0 T* Makro-Planar
EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM

Any thoughts on going this route for my next lens, or what you might do differently?

70mm can feel short? I think you mean long since all the lenses on your list are wide. If you did mean short, isn't that what 71-200mm on that 70-200 are for? If 200mm is short, 100-400? Anyways, you already have a 24-70 so maybe something ultra wide?

Just ge the 70-200 as it will be a great compliment to your 24-70, worry about the next lens after that later... when you recover from the price, lol.

No, if you look at my gear the only lens I have is the 24-70L. Sometimes when I'm shooting 70mm feels too short for certain shots... where as if I had the 70-200, I'd have an extra 130mm of reach. That's all I was saying.

Anyway, yea price still scares me

consider the 85mm f/1.8 also. A little longer, much faster, and much cheaper.

I would stronly recommend the Zeiss ZE lenses if you can live with the manual focus. However, the question is what you really want. The 70-200 II, TS-E 45, ZE 50/100 MP and 8-15L are all quite different, maybe you should rent a few before commiting to a lens?

The ZE 100 MP is an outstanding lens that would give you some extra tele plus 1:2 macro capabilities, so maybe that's an option. I personally really like the ZE 50 MP and the ZE 35, but those both fall within the range of your brick. At this point, it seems as if you would like to extend the range of your line-up?

I love the Zeiss lenses and don't mind MF at all... but there still are situations where I'm going to need AF. That's the main reason, I was looking at the 70-200 first... because it gives me a completely new Focal Range and it can AF when needed.
