Ordered mine from NewEgg last Thursday. Got it Monday. After the fiasco with BuyDig I was happy to find it from some place I've been buying from for the past 10 years. We are leaving for Hawaii this weekend so I was running out of time. I just wanted something smaller than my Canon 40D to carry around once in a while. But I think I'll have a hard time leaving the big boy behind.

I am new to this site and this is my first posting.

I ordered a S95 three days ago from B and H, on line. I have bought previously from them several times, and all was delivered as promised.

Of course the S95 is not in stock, but I was advised that it will be in by Jan 28 - at the latest.

It will be interesting if it actually arrives as advised.

B&H is petty reputable. They're telling you what Canon told them... I'm sure they'll keep you updated. You're gonna love this little camera!

As well as my Canon DSLR cameras I also have a S90 and a G9. Don't use either of them a whole lot, but the S90 gets more use than the G9. I resisted the temptation to upgrade to the S95 and G12 a few times, which is unusual for me.

Last night I was surfing on my iPad and read David Pogue's love letter to the S95. I checked out the price on Amazon, which has obviously come down a bit since launch, and still managed to resist the temptation to buy the S95.

Half an hour later as my vegetarian wife was cooking me a huge T Bone steak an email came from Amazon confirming the order for a S95. She's seen me looking it again and decided to buy it for me!

I ordered mine yesterday after debating between the S95 and the Panasonic LX5.

I noticed that some people bought the s95 rather than the LX5 panasonic. I am wondering why? I have a G12, but if I had known that the panasonic products have a shutter possibility of a whole minute as opposed the the Canon lame 15 seconds, I probably would have gone with the LX5... for cheaper too I believe. Why does Canon limit to 15 seconds, even on this $500+ G12??!! Maddening. Why not a B setting, especially since apparently many 'pros' own them (like myself).

assuming this site is used by adults interested in solid information, why are there all these idiotic 'smiley face' icons here, as if kindergarten children are on this site??
Talk about an insult to our intelligence.

After some looking around, I'd agree that the lx5 had some features I really liked. I would have picked it up over the s95 (they go about the same price) except it's significantly larger. The whole reason for a DSLR owner to also pick up a point and shoot is portability, so hey, why not just get the smallest good camera and really be able to carry it everywhere?

Plus if I have a tripod with me or any support capable of keeping it steady for over 15 seconds, I'd probably just have the slr with me.

Not really trying to disagree, just food for thought. I'll leave you with a smiley to top it off since you're so fond of them ;)

On my continent, the LX5 is very considerably pricier. The LX5 wins on close focussing. The S95 has that cool in-camera HDR. The S95 has better controls (love the control ring) but the LX5 had otherwise better ergonomics - until you add the Richard Franiec grip (external link) to your S95.

Personally, I dithered between the two for months. The LX5 goes wider. Everybody seems to hate the lens cap of the LX5 and the thickness of the Canon makes it more pocketable.

I like Canon IS.

And of course bar one transgression, I've been using Canon since my AE1 and old F1.

The Richard Franiec grip was enough to finally swing it for me.
