Scanning OLD photo's

I just found a HUGE box of old photo's going back 40 years. I'd like to get them digitally on to a CD.

I can go to, lets say Sam's Club and scan them in myself ... or ... buy a scanner and do them myself.

With regard to buying a scanner, I see that the trend these days is to buy a all in one printer that has scanning capability. If I was to buy an all in one printer, which one would you recommend?

I print my own photo's at home on a Canon ip6700d. I'd like at least that printing quality capability. So ...

--- which canon all in one would match the ip6700d?
--- which is the "best' all in one canon printer out there?
--- which is the "best" all in one out there, canon or otherwise?

Be brave and ignore the "trend". Buy a stand-alone Epson flatbed scanner. You won't regret it.

I'm just not into those combo units myself. I've had two flatbed scanners now. Currently using an Epson V300 which does everything I need. Had an HP scanner before..but my problem with HP is their software seems to invade everything. With the flatbed scanner you can copy anything that can fit on top of the scanner..can't do that with the combo units.

I have an older Epson Perfection Photo 2480 and I've been using it for my ongoing project of digitizing my family photos. I also have invested in two excellent books about repairing and restoring old photos:
