Thanks for all of the advice. I was already leaning towards the 5d but I also had my eye on the 7d but I have made my decision.....Mark II 5D

There is no doubt that a good camera can help the non-professional make better images. It also helps the professional, that is why they choose to purchase/use them.

The fact that you needed to decid on one camera, the 5DII is a good choice for the type of photography you perform.
Congrats and good luck with it.

just a few of my thoughts...

I personally have yet to see the "Magical" $800 or $900 dollar difference between the 7D and the 5D2. The hype built up here on POTN about FF being soooo much better is amusing to read most the time, but it's unfortunately costly to the vast majority of newcomers who could get more for their money with another option, 99% won't even be able to distinguish the IQ between the two ;) If you have the cash and the smaller DOF that full frame offers is important to you in your style of photography then I say go for the 5D2, but if your on a budget, I would not be so quick to dismiss the 7D, I think you would be pleasantly suprised with what you get for the money.

OP: Here are some posts you may want to check out. Good luck ;)

Mark II, but if you will buy both later, why don't start from 7D, since 5D II maybe upgrade to Mark III this year.

This "FF goodness" hype is like the emperors new clothes.

I had the same questions when I got my 7D. Now I wish I would have gone with the 5Dm2. The high iso and IQ between crop and FF is now distinguishable to me now. Before, I looked at the specs on paper and decided on the 7D for all its features. The 7D is serving my needs fine though, so I am just waiting for the next FF camera.

Based on your types of pictures, I would say go with the 5DMKII. If you were shooting sports, I'd say go with the 7D over the 5D.

I've got both and prefer the 5DMKII ... not putting the 7D down by any means but I shoot a lot of what you mention you shoot and the 5D2 is my prefered camera for just about everything. 7D makes a great 2nd / backup camera! It does seem a lot of people have both, doesn't it?

word.... i had the 5dII and im on my 2nd 7D.. 5dII great camera, sold it... but for MOST people... you cant even tell if you expose correctly... the only thing i really miss about FF is the lens selection...soo many wides available to you... the only wide fast prime for a crop is the 28 f/1.8 which is normal fov... i jus want a 35mm FOV 1.4

5dII for me, but if you are shooting events professionally, two 50ds would be better than one 5dII. Only takes one failed camera to ruin an event. In the least, pick up something like an Rebel XS or a 2nd hand 30d to go in the bag in case of emergency.

I had both and sold the 7D. Nothing "magical" about the 5DII, it was just that the pictures were better overall than what I got from the 7D. It wasn't a one shot comparison but many shots over a period of time that made my decision. I found I was just using the 7D less and less.

Now, I use the Mark IV and the 5DII almost interchangeably except when I am shooting fast moving subjects then it's always the MkIV.
