I agree photographers make the photo but it doesn't hurt to have a great camera on hand :)

Can't agree more ! :)

I have absolutely no problem printing photo's from the 7D shot at 1600 or higher, I think most owners of this cam would agree, although I realize it's all personal preference when it comes to what's acceptable noise.

Well, after all the conversation on here on the 7D and the 5D2 I took a couple of pics with the 70-200 MKII. While I was using the 7D I set the zoom to 140 (I was trying to set it at 135) to make up for the crop factor (Hope I did that right). The 5D2 was shot at 1/200 and the 7D at 1/180 both with flash ISO 100 f/2.8

Here is a screen shot I took while looking at them on lightroom, tomorrow I will try to compare the ISO better, (Maybe I should have sone that tonight, since that is what has been coming up so much on the few last posts) 5D2 on left 7D on right

Oversized image changed to link. POTN Max. is 1024 pixels in the longest dimension.

Both great cameras, but good choice on the 5D2!

I think that comparison shows exactly what I expected. Both high resolution cameras, but a larger sensor has an advantage.

If it only was in a camera body that works like a 7D...
Well, there is the 1Ds Mark III, but there has to be some limit for how much money I throw into this hobby.

Looks as if there might be a microadjustment needed IMO. I guess the test is not for higher ISO handling due to a flash at ISO 100.

As I said on the post, I started playing with both cameras, and while I was looking at them I figure I would share what I was looking at, and I also said I will try to do an ISO test today.

Still looking forward to a couple members' contributions showing that "much better than 1 stop" or "at least 2 stops better" samples between the 5D2 and 7D at the same exposure levels. :) I either have a stellar "first release" 7D, or the last 3 5D2s were duds. ;)

A test showing a 5D2 at 1600, 3200 and 6400, then a 7D at 1600 (same settings at the 5D2 at that ISO) should show us which of the two higher ISOs of the 5D2 match it, from all indications, the 5D2 ISO 6400 should equal the 7D 1600, or even maybe better it. Also need to know which raw processing engine was used, I use DPP and I have it honor the raw file settings stored from the camera for the standard noise reduction levels.

I'd be interested to see this test that shows the high-ISO gap between the 7D and 5D2 as well. There is going to be a difference, but I dont think it's as considerable as some make it out to be.

Which camera is the best camera to get? I'm looking to upgrade my equipment for my photography. I take portraits, events, scenic shots. Which is better for the best professional photos? Need help deciding!

For what you want to do, I'd say the 5D Mark II. If you had said Sports and Wild Life I prob would have said the 7D. Both are very capable cameras, but also very different. They compliment each other well, I hope to own both someday.

Ok, here is a quick test I did, I hope I did this right, I used a 5DMKII and a 7D, both with 24-70 2.8 (Same lens, just swapped it), 2 sec delay on the shutter, also, there is a very small difference on the shutter speed, I just aimed for the center on the exposure meter, ( I figure that since what we are talking is noise, it might not make a difference, I hope!!! ). Used center point on both.

EDIT: All pictures taking on RAW, loaded them to lightroom just to convert them to JPG, but I did not touch them, all of the Exif should be on flicker, also, the pictures taken with the 5DMKII were zoomed at 40mm and the 7D are at 24mm (Trying to make up for the crop factor)

Let me know what you think...
