hi -

just wanted to double check. i'm on a trial version for both, and want to offer printing for friends and family so the base price will be whats charged. seems like smugmug is .21 and zenfolio is .29? shipping for smugmug seems a lot cheaper for an order for 20 prints or so. is this accurate? i like the simplicity of zen as i won't need as much customization smug offers, but if it will be cheaper for friends/family to print, is smug the way to go?

This may not answer your question precisely, but as a zenfolio user, I'm very impressed with zenfolio. There printing service is top knotch. Orders are shipped very promptly. Usually within the week I, or customers order them.

thanks for the rec. i ordered prints from both to sample and waiting to get them. i really like zens layout, simple enough for me. but don't want family to pay the high shipping. i noticed if i have a 4x6 and a 5x7 in my cart, i have to pay twice the shipping!

Well, if its just for friends and family, why dont you tell them to pick a photo that they like and want printed and you can either send them a copy to get printed from their choice of printer or just use another printing service? I know its the long way round of doing things but it would solve the problem of cost for people you know.

I do not have this issue with Zenfolio at all. Shipping is shipping is shipping. Zenfolio's print fulfillment is provided by Mpix (who I used for years before I started hosting with Zenfolio anyway). For most print sizes and with reasonable quantities ordered, shipping is typically $4.95. I've only ever paid more with large size prints.

thanks for the feedback. my shipping was a little over $6 and it was maybe 15 prints. largest being 5x7. smugmug was roughly $3 so i will probably go w/ smug. yes i know $3 might not be a huge dif but it can add up.
