I just purchased the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8. I had read prior to buying that an advantage of a Sigma lens was the four year warranty. Is this something that they've recently changed? My warranty card says that the "manufacturer guarantee" is only one year from purchase date.

I guess it is only one year. I wouldn't know about their policy in the past, but I just bought two new sigma lenses (both off Amazon) and both of their descriptions read "carries Sigma's one-year warranty".

I believe that if you register online with Sigma, they extend the warranty. Also, there are some places that sell import versions with a 1 year warranty. Check your lens box and bill of sale carefully.

Assuming you are in the US, register it with Sigma. http://warrantystatus.sigmaphoto.com/ (external link)

You get an extra 3 years with EX lenses, and 2 years for non-EX.

I believe its 10 years for EX lenses and I believe 7 for normal lenses.

congratulations. As you can see I too only buy EX sigma lenses. at the same time, I was differentiating between sigma's different warranty policies.

I know someone who lives 10min away from the sigma canada repair center and he brings his under-warranty lens there for free recalibration every year.

In the UK it's 1 year as standard, plus an extra 2 when you register.

Gray market (imported) have one year warranties. Only EX lenses imported by Sigma USA have three year warranties.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

Mine isn't gray market. It comes with a one year warranty, but after registering it online with Sigma, they gave me another three years.
