We lost Olie our 14 year old black lab (external link), Lena our 13 year old golden and a cat this calendar year. Our young daughter experienced quite a bit. Well now she is experiencing Steve the silver lab.

Steve joins Moon Kitty (external link)the pound cat and Uffda (external link) the 6 year old newfie. Things are starting to get back to normal again.

Good looking fella, has some growing to do to catch up to those paws. Too bad about the losses, I'm sure he's a welcome addition to the family.

what a beautiful puppy, in whippets we'd call that colour blue, I didn't know you could get Labs in that colour.

The AKC does not recognize silver as a color. Not even sure what AKC would register this as, a chocolate I am assuming. Unfortunately some breeders charge a premium for this 'rare' color and most people don't know any better.

Very cute pup though.

Thank you Asquared for your input and judgments. My 4 year old daughter recognized silver as a color and was excited about getting the puppy. The asking price was competitive for the part of Alaska we are in. Whatever AKC anxiety and pretentiousness out there is yours. The only papers of interest for him are the ones currently protecting my floor. I hope Steve’s existence does not cause you to lose sleep or cause the value of your dog(s) to plummet. (wow)

Thanks Darby67 and Whippeticious. He is an odd color and a welcome addition to our family. My daughter is excited. I may not know any better but my giggling daughter is a premium for me.

I wasn't trying to judge you or your dog, I think he's adorable. But there are plenty of breeders who charge a premium for silver or white labs when neither are true colors. I don't think the registration is as important as health, hip, and eye clearances on the parents and I am sure you feel the same way. :)

Whoa!? Someone seems a bit snippy. I didn't take that post that way at all - I just thought Asquared was replying to Whippeticious who said he/she didn't know Labs came in that color. Nobody was questioning the worth of your new pup or the happiness that he brings your daughter. Some of us out here like to talk about things like that (without any malice intended).

As an animal geneticist, I find your pup very interesting - but I won't go into why lest you think I have some other motive.

Oh my goodness he's adorable! I love his color and his eyes! He's looks so snuggly, I want to curl up with him! Labs are the best. Keep posting photos as he grows!

Thanks Nodin. She already has bonded with Steve. Our house had been without a lab for too long.

He is a comforter/cover burrower. I forgot how hard they play and how hard they crash. I will try to post pictures from time to time ilovewater. Daylight cannot come back soon enough. Will get some better photos, I hope, when the light improves.
