This is a bit late, but I was requested to create a school poster of the lunar eclipse on December 21, 2010 for some science classrooms and it took a while to create this. I apologize for the unreadable print, but the poster is 13 by 19 inches (8640 X 5760 pixels) so this web image has been downsized considerably.
I was bothered by thin clouds, but found enough "holes" to get some usable shots. I quit about 2 AM when the clouds became too much of a problem. I used the full ISO range of my 7D from 100 to 12800 as the eclipse progressed. My "telescope" is my Canon 400/5.6 lens with both of my extenders (1.4X and 2X) stacked together on the lens. I used my Wimberly Sidekick gimbal mount and it worked great in this situation where the lens was essentially aimed at the zenith. Live view was great for minimizing neck strain and it also helped with shutter vibration.
