problems with my lightroom catalogue on my mac

Look at this screenshot. As you can see, for some reason my photos got split up over the years into 2 different files. It makes no sense to me that on 7/15/2010 there is a new set of years with pictures. Of course, lightroom knows where to look for all the photos and it's not a problem within lightroom. But it just seems to me that my computer ought to be properly organized. Why would this happen? Should I bother to fix it? How do I fix it?

Well, it's impossible to say how it happened -- it could have happened in one of several ways. To fix things I'd just use Lightroom to move the folders into their proper place. Select a folder, use Cmd-A to ensure all files are selected, then move the folder to the proper parent folder. It also looks like you have a "stray" file that can be put back into place.

As to why it happened in the first place...well...typical​ly if you go through a step-by-step recall of actions taken or events occurring you can nail something down.
