Currently, I have Canon 28-135 is usm and Sigma 28-70 f2.8. I am planning to get a Canon 7D. With my current lens, is it good enough for walk-around lens on 7D? Or should I get Canon 15-85 or 24-105L.

I can't speak for the 24-105L but it's reputation is stellar. I do however have the 15-85 on a 50D and like it a lot. I upgraded from the 28-135 as my main walk around lens. It's focuses very fast and is sharp.

I also can't speak for the 24-105, but it may be a little long on the wide end. The 15-85 is a great lens, I had it on my 550D 95 percent of the time.

If you decide on the 15-85, I have mine for sale because I'm moving to full frame. It's in like new condition and it's sharp!

Well, imho 24mm isn't really that wide on a crop--I certainly wouldn't be satisfied with it. I'd look at the 15-85 for sure, or if you want f2.8 look at the Canon 17-55 or Sigma 17-50...

Do you guys miss the extra zoom length? Which lens do you use as a zoom lens? After looking at the L lens, the pictures are so sharp and focus.

Do you ever plan to move to a FF? If yes, get the 24-105, if not for awhile - the 15-85mm is a very nice lens on the 7d.

I have the 15-85 and it is a super lens, my brother in law has the 24-105, but I decided on the 15-85 for the wider end, he does however have a 10-20, which if I had, I would probably have gone for the 24-105.

I have the 24-105 on my 7D , and it's great lens , i mostly use it for walk around , portraits , sports , movies .

SO for all , and you benefit of the weather sealing , great construction , it's an L lense !!! . Try thel both , you will see ! And think of the future maybe you will go for FF later.

I would say the 24-105. I have had that lens since my old rebel XT. Its sharp, lightweight "L" and has IS. Plus when/if you upgrade to a FF in the future, you will have a great lens.

If you find that you are missing out on the wide end with your current setup then the 15-85 might be the way to go. I have the 24-105L and since it's the widest I have, it's what I'm used to. Mine is amazingly sharp, the AF is quick, and it's not too heavy to lug around all day. The biggest drawback for me on the 15-85 would be the lack of a constant aperture. I know it's just my opinion but I really dislike using variable aperture lenses. I had the 28-135 with my 50D and got rid of it after about two weeks.

My 24-105 is my go to lens on my 7D.
If you need to go wider, the 10-22 is a great choice to fill that wide gap.

The 24-105 is the widest lens I own for my 50D. I have never wanted anything wider but I often wish it was longer.

It's all about focal length preference. I originally had a Tokina 12-24 and Canon 24-105. I found myself switching lenses WAY too often to the point that it became really annoying. The 17-55 fixed that problem for me. I'd pick the 15-85 over the 24-105, but that's me.

Other people can't tell you if its good enough for a walk around. The decision should be based on your shooting preferences. What camera do you have now? Is it the same sensor? If so, the perspective isn't going to change. How do you like your current lenses?

i picked up the 15-85 over the 24-105 for my 550d. The wide end of 15mm is really helpful when u r in a small room or you want to shoot extremely wide landscapes. The difference between 85mm and 105mm is very little and you can always crop when you are post processing.

But the difference between f5.6 and f4 at the long end can be quite alot for some people. if that is a problem for you, go with the 24-105.

Bear in mind that the 24-105 is an L lens and thus it has weather sealing that goes well with your 7D.

I kept on telling myself that I need 24-105 and would definitely get it, but every time I go out for a shoot, I always end up needing the 15mm range of my lens, for at least 30% of the shoot. Only reason I want to get 24-105 is for its weather sealing which will be very handy in our sandy & dusty environment in UAE and of course the constant F4 aperture is an attraction as well. They say that 15-85 is a slow lens, but honestly till now I never had the situation even indoors where I find it slow. I have a ext flash to complement the "slow" aperture plus ISO bump is always handy.
