I would reconsider the restriction to one or the other. Why not both?

I like #2 best. It tells a more compelling story, imho.

I like Number 1 the best. I like it when one subject acknowledges the camera in a two person photo. It's as if he is giving permission for the viewer to share in the moment. It's not as sharp as the second one, but that really doesn't matter.

Both are very good. I like the symmetry of the two looking at the camera in #1 but #2 is definitely the better shot.

#2 hands down, it captures the moment well.

I think they should both be looking at you or the goats. the kid looking at you exposes you as being there and not being the omnipitent camera.

First step........ Take the lens cap off.

I like 2 - I'd get rid or/tone down the orange band if it is just an entry pass. The background blur looks a bit odd - what lens did you use? Perhaps a bit more PP blurring might improve it.
Good work!

I'm amazed by the "either/or" mentality here. This is a natural pair of pictures. Surely you can make a wall suit the image, rather than the other way around?

#2.
Either both look or neither look at the camera. Unless you are an artist with a purpose for the distraction, it just doesn't work to have one person in a photo looking in a different direction than the others.

Digital killed the Kodachrome star!
With a list of gear like that, what is your excuse?

Second photo. It has four great expressions & expectations. However background figure is more distracting in second.

Look at possibility of Printing both & hanging as a pair.
