I've recently purchased the Canon 1.75x telephoto lense - it's good, but I want more!

What other telephoto lense will fit the G3? I've had a look around the web and haven't come up with much (that I can understand).

I'm looking for 3x, 4x or 5x zoom.

Not after much eh?!

Cheers

I think there isn't bigger telelens than 2x. Mine is wideangle 0,5x.

I have no idea about tele larger than 2x. I have a Kenko 2x KNT-20. If I want to get closer I can use this combination: full optical zoom plus full digital zoom plus 2x tele, that will bring it to (35mm equivalent) 980mm. There is a problem with this setting, the camera shake. You need to have steady hands to hold your camera and set a faster exposure time. I use this combination to take the last picture (img_0193) in my gallery. It is not very sharp.

Thanks GG3 - I've tried to avoid using the digital zoom in the past but I think it's worth a try with the tripod.

I just saw a classic photo opportunity the other day but couldn't get close enough to make it count: male and female mallard ducks sitting in a tree (!!) with two spotted woodpeckers next to them - bizarre!!!

No No No No ... dont use the digital zoom !

Photoshop does a much better job of interpolating than the camera can.
Do the digital zooming off camera you will get much better results that way and do it gradual. Increase the resolution from 180 to 240 dpi and then check how it looks then try it again eventually it will start to look pixelated.

Give it a go

Ermelindo,

Correct me if I'm wrong but the OpticZoom 5x belongs to a company called EagleEye right? Well, like you, I was interested in getting the OpticZoom 5x. Therefore, I requested for more info from folks @ EagleEye. Here's what I got from our correspondence.

Our OpticZoom 5x Telephoto Lens can be used with the G3 but as with most cameras when you attach any add-on lens there are vignetting issues to consider. With the G3 you are pretty much confined to using the 4x camera optical zoom setting. The combination does produce a slight amount of vignetting even at maximum camera zoom. We do not have any sample images for the G3, but if you take a look at the Sony S70 sample images on the website the extent of the vignetting is very similar.

It's the vignetting that I can't live without. I think, the further you go with the G3, the more vignetting it's got. Well, do update us upon your purchase. (i.e. if you intend to, k?) HTH !
