My company name is "The Framed Life", I'm trying to re-invent my logo to appeal more to my target market which is sports and transportation for the most part, but I'm having trouble getting creative, I was hoping that having someone else's perspective on my business name would help me out.

First person to say Jail wins the loser award

Here's my current logo, it's worked for now but I'm trying to move away from the more "fancy" look that it gives off right now as I'm moving away from people/portrait/wedding stuff for a while.

I dont understand your current logo at all... to be honest i dont find it 'fancy' at all. Not trying to be harsh all just giving my honest oppinion.

What sort of look are you looking for?

Perhaps you should find a graphic designer to do you a few logos

You don't understand the square frame at the beginning?

The first thing that I think about then I hear your business name is what I am not allowed to mention. From your comment, it would seem that this is the majority of people's first thoughts when they hear your business name. That seems like a problem to me.

It doesn't look like a frame to me... more that someone slipped with a pen after jotting down the name.

Well, everyone else understands that's a frame, but the point of this thread isn't to critique my current logo.

I thought it was regarding you making a new logo? Why did you post your logo if it wasnt about that?

Personally id get a professional to do you a new logo. To me a logo is one of the first things they see on your website or business card, you want it to look amazing!

Sorry but you asked what people think and yes although you said "When you Hear" but the first thing that I think anyone is going to think of is yes JAIL. Then with that in mind the only next thing to change that thought would be if your image could provoke the frame more accurately.
My daughter designs LOGOS as part of her graphics business and when I showed her she had the same thoughts. She did say that if you are partial to that logo that perhaps a different name would work better.

The very fact you have to deter people from mentioning 'jail' tells me that you have heard this more than you would like....ummm.....there's your answer....the name stirs up something other than what you intend.

Honestly, the name 'The Framed Life' does not make me think of photography in any way. If you walked up with a camera and said 'I'm from The Framed Life' I would instantly think paparazzi or something like that. It just doesn't have a positive connotation, in my opinion.

If you owned a custom framing shop....that name would certainly work.

As for the logo, the square looks more like an Aspen leaf than a 'frame'. Again, just my opinion. But I look at the logo and I do not think photography. Being a photographer, if I don't get it, then the general public is even less likely to get it.

Here is what I have been told by marketing people. Your business, especially a service business, should either include your name (for name branding) or state what you do. For example, Peak Photography or Johnson Portrait Photography. There is no confusion for the general public. We, as professionals, often tend to want to be overly creative and all though our colleagues might understand a name like 'Captured by Aperture', the general public just doesn't get it.

A couple suggestions that come to mind are: 'Life Framed' by James Robertson and 'Framed Memories'

For some reason, I just like the sound of 'Life Framed' better than 'The Framed Life'.

I just asked my wife real quick what she thought and she said she wouldn't connect 'The Framed Life' with photography either....and she's married to a photographer. I think you can play around with the words....maybe even 'Life....Framed' or 'Life, Framed'. Hmmm.....maybe a 'Life Framed' on top and 'Photography' underneath it in smaller font but stretched.

Anyway, I'm certainly not bashing you or your idea, just giving my opinion. Hopefully I didn't write anything that comes across the right way.

Like others, your business name first brings to mind what I'm not allowed to say. But it sounds like you want to stick with the name "The Framed Life."

So... given that and your target of sports and transportation, I'd try to use the logo to bring a different kind of frame to mind. Transportation has some obvious uses... a vehicle frame (car, train, etc.). For sports maybe a goal or goalposts or something else sports related that suggest a frame (a field, etc.). Maybe trying to incorporate both types of frames? One larger frame that's "framing" the other, smaller frame and text?

Just my two pesos' worth, but perhaps just "Framed" would be snappier?

OK, somehow I overlooked the whole sports and transportation thing.

When photographing transportation, I do not think of 'life', but manufacturing, speed, movement, action. Since you are targeting sports and transportation I would certainly go with a name that addresses those two subjects. Action Framed, Motion Framed, The Framed Motion, The Framed Action.....the common theme in both of these subjects is in fact motion/action. Therefore, I would certainly consider something of that nature in my company name.

You want your target audience to be able to relate you to them. The Framed Life just doesn't connect with transportation and sports, in my opinion.

Either way you try to sell it the feeling still comes across with the wrong intent.
1. a book about somebodies life
2. A framing store.

Last night I was out with some friends, the one guy kept telling jokes nobody got and he had to explain them. He finally said if I have to explain the joke it must not be very good. The same goes for logos, if you have to explain it, it's not good. Names as well, if you have to explain it, it's not very good.

I think of prison, and then I think that you're selling frames, then maybe framed prints...if you're just selling prints of sports and transportation then you're name doesn't fit.
