Model railroad enthusiasts displayed their miniature rolling stock that has a unique difference: instead of running on electricity, these engines run on steam, burning fuel and boiling water to get underway.

Leaving a note on how the images were created: equipment was a T2i and a Canon 18-55mm image stabilizer lens. Camera had 1/3-stop of exposure compensation to accommodate the chance of underexposure. Program AE and Auto ISO were used. Available light and no flash.

The camera was set to Live View to make lower viewing angles and accurate framing possible. A low angle is closer to the angle at which the models would be viewed if they were real and you were looking at them at full scale. Models look better at those low angles than if you were framing them from above.

The lens was positioned as close to the trains as possible, just outside the lens' minimum focusing distance. The framing distances resulted in the shallow depth of field that was useful in isolating the subjects.
