I know it isn't the best

image, but for me it is what the image is of that is important. This is an endnagered salt water crocodile that I walked up on this past April in South Florida. I was photographing a spoonbill when I looked over and saw this big female about 20 feet away. I shot 10 or so shots with a 200mm from about 15 feet and then when she started moving, I hiked back to the truck and got my 400 and took a few more. I have heard that there could be as few as 300-500 left in the US. Hope you enjoy...

Trust me, I am not trying to act like the crocodile hunter here, but imagine looking over and seeing that 15-20 feet from where you are standing in the wild. It was quite a rush seeing one that close.

Not sure about the teeth...maybe she uses tourist camera straps as floss?? Could partially be the post process to brighten and contrast the image.

Seriously though, I just started taking pictures when I saw her and then when she started moving, I got a nice cold chill and went back and got the long lens! Besides there was another photographer there as well and you know the old saying in nature photography that "You don't have to out run the bear, just the slowest photographer?" well, I figured that applies to crocodiles as well!

First of all this is a cool shot. I would like to see a couple more of the ones you took with the 400mm lens. The green in front of the subject takes my eye away from the old lady here. I was thinking if you dodged
it down a bit in PP that might help. Most of the time I am looking for great color but here I don't think it works.

Great shot....and those teeth, they are so white and clean. You are definitely a brave person to have grabbed this shot...I would have run back to the truck and started it up and I'd been outta there...LOL.

not trying to still this person's thunder here is a shot i took around 8 years back with a analogue canon prima zoom camera. yeha it has been scanned but i though i was kind of related to the topic. this is on a jumping croc tour on the adelaide rive, N.T australia
