I recently purchased a Feisol carbon fiber tripod that will be primarily used at the beach. It might get wet at times but will absolutely be in contact with sand and ocean mist. Other than wiping down its there any other maintenance/care I should be completing or worried about?

does it have flip or twist locks? I'd worry a bit on the twists if sand and gunk got up in there

Twist locks aren't hard to clean. Learn how to take it apart and clean all the sand off. Once that's done put some grease and reassemble. :)

They are the twist locks which I'm still getting use too. I have a rag and just give it a quick wipe. I must say after playing with the Manfrotto I like the twist locks better but that's a different issue.

I had twist locks on my monopod, and unless i twisted hard enough the damn thing would collapse on me...i prefer flip because then i KNOW when they are opened up or locked down

Greg Downing wrote a great article on Gitzo tripod maintenance. Some of it may transfer over to other brands.

You might want to leave it dry... Grease attracts & holds sand

I don't shoot at the beach often, but I do get mine wet and muddy. I just take the legs apart wipe the legs clean, then wipe the twist lock threads clean and put some dialectric grease on the twist lock threads for smoother operation. No issues to date

cheap monpod? i tried to collapse my 'twist lock' monopod when extended and it won't budge.

The Greg Downing piece linked to above is great. Here's another one you can adapt to your own needs:

I prefer twist lock over flip locks. I've had a Manfrotto go bad on me and that was my experience. Twist locks have been reliable for me in my experience. :)

Having the ability to quickly collapse, move & re-deploy a monopod fits my needs

not my experience unless its a crappy bestbuy brand.
cheap flip locks have the same problems by the way. which you can fix easily though.
