Looking for advice for a lens for my second shooter.

I'd prefer to stay around $1k. And, I'd also prefer to avoid any EF-S lenses, as I'd like to use it too.

Does the 24-105 make most sense? I could also do a prime lens too.

my wife is often my second shooter as well, and she uses the 24-105L the whole day (also on a crop body).
keeps her away from my lenses and she doesn't have switch at all throughout the day. as long as its fast enough in the church that is.

also, by default, it helps her keep her aperatures small enough while doing impromptu group shots at the reception (with flash).
when i give her 2.8 lenses, she often sneeks to the bigger aperature, and then she doesn't have enough depth of field.
as often as i ask her to keep her aperature stopped down a bit, she still finds away to screw with me haha. the f4 saves us that drama.
messed up i know, but that's not a battle i want to fight :)

and its a fantastic lens

24-105L would be my choice. It pretty much fits every criteria that you put it in. My girlfriend loves to use the 28-135, so if I get her a new lens its going to be the 24-105.
