I have done some searching for threads about small bags, and it seems like most people are searching for something to hold a body and a spare lens or two. What I am looking for is a bag that will hold the bare essentials, more of a case really.

I am trying to find a bag/case with a shoulder strap that is just big enough to hold a 5d with a 50mm f/1.8 attached. Maybe a small pocket for a filter or some lens wipes, but that is not necessary. Most of the bags I have seen that are similar to this are meant to fit a zoom. The Tamrac bag I have is big enough to fit the 5d with a 24-70 mounted, but I'd like something smaller

What is everyone's favorite ultra compact, bare essentials bag?

Check my recent thread out! I'm going to buy the Domke F-5XB most probably.

Perhaps for you, just a holster? I mean, if I really wanted to go out with just the 5D + 50mm, I wouldn't even be bringing a bag... just sling it with the shoulder strap or an R strap.

A holster would be great, but I can't seem to find one short enough for use with just a prime, the ones I have seen were designed for small zoom lenses.

My reason for getting a small bag rather than carrying the camera without one is to still have some protection from small bumps and spills. I would also like to be able to put the camera away so as to avoid unwanted attention.

The Domke F-5XA might do the trick, if the bag ends at the divider shown in the picture below, which is a Domke F-5XB, I believe.

Does anybody know of a "lens jacket" like this one, either made for the 5d and a short lens like the 50mm, or universal?

There's a reason those things were "fondly" referred to as "Never-ready" cases back in the '60s and '70s. Add in the need to retain access to the controls all over the back of the camera and you'll have an extremely unwieldy thing hanging off your camera whenever you go to use it. If you really want something to keep just the camera and your active lens in, look at various companies' camera holsters. They'll provide similar encasement when you're not using the camera, but you just lift up and completely remove the camera from them when you want to take pictures.

I recently ordered this slip on cover and am waiting for it to arrive anyday now.

I had a similar case once for my xt but sold it both off together. I had no complaints with it.
