I agree with Michael on this one... great news other than the extra wait! I have always made emphasis that one reads most about the failures than actual success stories because we are much more prone to post problems hoping to find answers than posting to say: hey, everything is working out. But with the T2i, I have really not read much of any issues, so luckily yours was isolated and your new camera will be trouble free as most of ours have been!

Good luck Teri, and any T2i users, come and hang in the T2i Users Unite thread, we have a great time discussing everything related to the T2i! :)

Rafa.

My Canon dealer called and they (Canon) decided to replace my camera with a new one. I hope I don't have any more issues! They never did tell me what was wrong with the original camera.

That sucks! hopefully your warranty is long enough on your new Canon.
It would suck if this issue comes with the new body and you have no warranty.

Rafa, I only noticed this problem after the first firmware update provided by Canon. I never even tried ML firmware, not interested for the moment. And this is not the first time I hear about this problem... I google'd a bit back then, found some stuff about it too, all after the first firmware update. But everyone thinks Rebel users are noobs and ruled out they are doing something wrong.
It didn't bother me until now, I had to send my 70-200 f4L in for repairs so I decided to send the T2i altogether.

My T2i is still in the shops waiting for parts... :(

After almost a month, I got my T2i back.

They replaced the FPC ASS'Y, DOS, cleaned my sensor and updated firmware.
(quick search "FPC ASS'Y, DOS" seems to be the proximity sensor)

The display always ON seem to work now!! :)

Well it's been 4 times I send this damn camera!
This time I sent it to Canon CPS.

They acknowledge the problem, their camera has the problem too and they can't fix it!
They are returning the camera to me unfixed!

No More Canon For ME!!

Hi,

My camera just started doing the same thing as yours, what has been the outcome? I don't wanna send mine right now since I have a trip and don't wanna risk not being fixed by that time, I would like to know what happened to your camera and what has canon said, thanks....

Juan

5½-year old T2i.
Powering on: red light blinks once; LCD panel never comes on.
Pressing PLAY, MENU, DISPLAY and LIVE VIEW do not activate the panel.
Covering-and-uncovering the proximity sensor does not activate the display.
The camera still auto-focuses and takes images and videos, but the LCD panel never comes on.
I assume that LCD panel replacement is indicated, but I don't like to assume…
(I also wonder if I dare try this myself because I don't think the 5½-year old body is worth an expensive repair.)

Take look at this Custom Function. Long shot but worth a look.

This is crazy... mine is doing nearly the same thing. Same age camera (bought in October 2010), happened the day after yours. Last Saturday I turned it on and could not get any display. I could see the various exposure-related elements working in the viewfinder, and the camera would autofocus, but it would not take a picture. Also it seems to drain the battery very quickly, even when it is off.

I know I had ML on one of my chips and I may have put that one in. But turning the camera on with no chip in it yields the same result.

Without a display it's rather hard to set a C.Fn. The person you replied to stressed that the display NEVER comes on. Same situation I have.

I was getting ready for a trip, so I spent the time (about a week) and money to ship the body and have it analyzed. In addition to a sensor cleaning (that didn't last long) and other cosmetic measures, a new LCD panel was installed and it's been working well for 1½ years since the panel replacement.
