A local organization that we support asked if I would donate a photo of mine for a silent auction. I'm happy to do it, but I wonder if should post a watermark or some other means of identifying myself as photographer for the winner? I don't usually print my watermark on photos and wouldn't likely do it for paying clients who know me (should I do this for money), but what about in a donation setting? I am going to print up an 8X10 and frame it. Would it be better to just put a sticker with my name on the back of the photo? Or on the back of the frame? I'm not really looking for business, but I guess I want acknowledgement for my work.

Thanks for any feedback.

I'd sign it somewhere. (maybe the back of the print? IDK) If you ever get famous it will be worth more if it's signed right? OR maybe the front in a little corner you could put your initials with a nice pen or something. (I'd also include some kind of sticker or certificate of authenticity on back with your contact info.. who knows?) lol

Nothing on the face. Put the details on the back in a label or business card.

So when you all say put the info on the back, do you mean the back of the photo (which is in the frame) or the back of the frame? (Though, I suppose, I could do both . . .) Thanks for the feedback! :)

I'd do both because there's a better than even money chance the winner will change the frame.

Make sure and ask if you can leave a stack of business cards on the table where the auction bid list is, so that people who don't win still have a chance of contacting you as well.

Oh, that's an idea!! And I am TEMPTED, but I do not have a photography business -- yet. Still, I will have my name up there and who knows? . . . :D

Most people seem to sign their photos, also agree with leaving promotional material on a table at auction.
