Variety of Lenses

Just recently became the owner of the following:

Canon Zoom Lens FD 100-300mm 1:5.6
Canon Zoom Lens FD 70-210mm 1:4
Vivitar 75-205mm 1:3.5-4.5 MC Macro Focusing Zoom
Quantaray 1:4~5.6 f=35~80mm
Canon Lens FD 28mm 1:2.8
Canon Lens FD 50mm 1:1.8
Tamron MC Tele Converter 2X For C/FD
Canon Lens FD 50mm1:1.8
Sears 1:2.8 f=28mm

I bought these lenses in a package deal to use with my rebel because I figured it was a good way to get equipment to practice with for a relatively low price. I know very little about photography, but I am very interested in learning.

What should I know about the lenses and what should I do to shorten the learning curve?

Tips and information are greatly appreciated.

I hate to be the bearer of ill tidings, but I think that may have been a strategic error.

You have bought lenses that are not directly compatible with your camera, and cannot be adapted without some significant drawbacks. There is much overlap in the lenses, and some are of dubious quality.

I'm assuming here that you have a digital SLR, not the old film Rebel. Exactly which camera do you have, and what EF or EF-S lenses do you have?

In general terms, the best lenses for learning with would be:
EF-S 18-55 IS
(then a 430 EX II flash)
EF-S 55-250 IS
EF 50/1.8 (maybe)

My newer camera is the digital rebel xt; however, I also have the Canon T50 which is a 35mm SLR dinosaur.

I also own the EF-S 18-55 IS and EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III which I currently use with the rebel.

If they are not compatible, not a big deal. I can continue to use what I have...just looking to practice with different lenses.

Those FD lenses will of course fit on the T50.

FD->EOS adaptors are available, but there are issues - image quality, loss of infinity focus, or a change in focal length. You also will only have manual aperture control.

I'd suggest that you consider replacing the 75-300 with the EF-S 55-250 IS as your next step if you use longer focal lengths to any significant extent; otherwise, get a flash.

The 18-55 IS, by the way, is a very decent lens optically, and should serve you well.
