Nashville Snow

It's not too often that we get 3 inches of snow, so I escaped for a while at lunch and captured a few images. I was wishing for a little blue sky to provide contrast but got lucky with an approaching train instead. Can't have everything!

BTW, I went to your website. The Yosemite by Sunrise is one of my favorite landscape pictures I've ever seen. Seriously, ever. It's good enough I may have to buy it from you!

I like the contrast and colors of the first image.

But...I really love the composition and feeling of the second image.

Thanks for the kind comment. There's a great story behind that photo and how I ended up being there for the sunrise without planning to. Long story short... my Blackberry doesn't automatically update time zones, but the alarm works great at 3:00am.

The second one would be great if the colors were not so bland.

They're not so bland in the original shot. I attempted to give it an antique Christmas card feel. Not sure if I succeeded, but it was on purpose.

Thanks for the feedback. They were both taken in Thompsons Station. The train is near the old depot, and the barn is on Thompsons Station Road about 2 miles west of Hwy 31 (this view is from Sedberry Road behind it).

I think you did a good job on #2. Otherwise it might have been just another red barn in the snow photo.

It looks like you added just a bit of vignetting to the sky and I don't think it looks quite right. I suggest getting rid of that and instead cropping out almost all of the sky from the top of the image. That would leave you with three distinct "zones": background hills, snow-covered field, foreground grasses. For me that pulls my eye right to the barn as a starting point for exploring the image.

I went to your site Doug to see some of your work and couldn't quit looking until I'd seen every photo. You have an amazing eye and talent sir.

Love the first one, I drove across country about two months ago from VA-CA and wish I could of got to shoot more. Nice captures.
