I live in Japan and believe me it is still cheaper for me to order thru B&H and have it delivered to me in Japan. Example, for me to buy a 17-40mm here would run around 1200 compared to around 750 in the states. It's like a rebate, in reverse... Same info already posted.

Thanks ~ I guess I wasn't clear in asking my question. I'm wondering if Crutchfield will honor the $90 purchase price when they get more lenses in stock, or will they tell me it's no longer available at that price?

Jan 12, 2011 09:39 | #41 If Crutchfield has any scruples, they will honor the price as it was when the customer ordered. It's not the customer's fault the price went up in the meantime, and it was still open for purchase at the old price fair and square. Website: Iowa Landscape Photography

Don't mean to steer off-topic here, but why do used lenses keep their value so well? I can think of no other consumer item that holds its resale value as much as a camera lens. None. It baffles me when I see people jump all over a used lens that is going for 85% of its "new" price. Anyone know why this is so? Is it simply because people will do anything to save a buck? Or is there another reason? Stupidity? There is no way in Hades I'm paying 85-90% of new for something that is used and carries no warranty, especially when an average repair on said item will run $300-$400. I'd rather buy a Canon refurb for a little more than the used price and than purchase a reputable extended warranty. Don't even get me started on Canon onlyoffering a 1 year warranty when Sigma offers 10, Tamron offers 7 and I believe even Nikon offers 5. How little faith do you have in your product that you only offer a 1 year warranty... especially when you are talking about a $1,500 lens. Canon 50D, 40D, T2i. Except as pointed out in another thread by someone in Japan, it is cheaper for them to order from B&H and have it shipped to Japan than to buy locally. So I'm not sure how much this has to do with the weak dollar. Canon 50D, 40D, T2i. Canon 24-105L and Nifty Fifty f/1.8 MKi, Tamron 10-24, 28-75, 18-250 and 70-300VC. Panasonic GF1 with 14-42 OIS.
