I'd have to do the pylon else it wouldn't make much sense, and the cloud is in the way as well :D

Great thing about Photoshop. You can clean up anything. Patch Tool. Some clone. 3 minutes.

I think the powerlines work here, it gives the highway on the hill more of the industrial invasion feel IMO

Agreed. Powerlines work very well for me. The flare is the first thing that needs to go. ;)

Powerlines work, Id get rid of the signs tho.

The one on the far right at least.

works for me either way,

ps: you can pick up a copy of CS3 by itself for around 130 bucks, thats what i paid when i started making money from my shoots, not a bad deal at all if you ask me... and most of us dont need the extended features of cs4 or 5, specially considering the price differential.
