I shouldn't have said it like that. I meant cheaper audio equipment that gets the job well done.

Obviously, BEST and CHEAP don't go together. Sorry for the wording.

i use basic juicedlink unit that has no phantom power + basic rode videomic mono shotgun + magiclantern to control digital / analog gains.

I have a Tascam DR-07 and a good shotgun mic I use. You can get a Rode Video Mic for $150, Tascam for $100.


Canon 60D
Lots of good New and Vintage Glass!!

Question is, what do you want to record?

-> If you just need a mic "on top" research the Röde Videomic - either Mono or Stereo (I have the Stereo, good sound quality :))
Maybe the Sennheiser "something" 400.

For short films you can possibly get away with a Röde Videomic either Stereo or Mono.

But if you really want to record for TV and films on a regular basis, then consider an assistant who will record sound onto a secondary device.
This will also reduce any chance of having focussing noises in on the microphone.

-> if you want to listen how the Stereo Mic performs in real life, try my youtube channel in the signature, the fountains.
