Hey everyone! I can't believe Sophia is finally turning 1 on Monday! I wanted to do some nice pictures to have some around for people to see at her party. She was a handful! It was a challenge because I just don't have much space in my condo to move around in and get a full body shot with the 50mm (and she was on the move!) :( I love the lens, but maybe it's time to find something that would work better for my space.

Anyways, after sorting through, I found this one that I just love. The crop is how it was in-camera as she creeped in to get the lollipop right when I snapped it. Wish I had more of her, but still think it is cute! I've got some other cake smashing pictures as well but this was my fave.

Very nice. You caught a great moment with good lighting and exposure. It won't be too long before you, your daughter and the 50 mm will have the outdoors available.

She's gorgeous! Love the shot. Did you use any studio lighting, or just the gear you have listed? (Wondering bc I have almost the exact same gear list)

Also, I have the same problem with my 50mm. I'm eager to get outside today in the snow (and hopefully will get more use out of it when the weather gets warmer too).

Thank you! I can't wait to be able to go outside when the weather warms up now that she can walk and run around...I haven't had the chance to do much outdoor photography yet since I am just beginning to learn :)

Thank you!! I wasn't sure if I'd hear from more people that the crop isn't right, but I like it...looks like she is sneaking in.

what a punkin! LOVE the shot, sometimes accidents are the best!
if you don't mind, what was your lighting set up?
looks like you balanced some ambient with a pop thru an umbrella camera right, maybe?
or was it all from a giant, gorgeous window? lol

Thank you! I don't have any studio lighting...too much for a beginner like myself (not to mention that I don't have the room for hardly anything!). I set up the paper over my kitchen island and it faces a big sliding glass door to our balcony. There is another window to my right as well. I wanted just natural light but needed the Speedlite for some shots. This one I believe I used the flash bounced up and behind me into the glass door.
And yes, I can't wait to go outside!! Sophia is just now walking around everywhere which makes going outside a little easier, but it's just too cold!! I haven't even got her a snowsuit yet :) Hope you get some fun snow pictures!!

Thanks!! I love it too...it's so true, the best shots are the ones I am not trying to pose her or get perfect ;)

I wish I had those giant windows around my house...I just have a tiny condo with a balcony that lets in some decent light although leaves me with little room to move around.

thanks, becky
this time of year in Indy, the sun doesn't cooperate, does it?
I have a food blog and sometimes its wicked tough to get enough natural light to shoot =/
esp. since I end up cooking in late afternoon and its dark by 4:30 lol
I have an umbrella and a 580ex ii, but you really cannot beat natural ambient!

She is so cute. I love how part of her is cut out of the picture and how there is still a lot of backround left.

Ha, the sun sure doesn't like to stay out around here! I'm just learning and these winter months have definitely been a challenge. I'd love to learn how to do some OCF with umbrellas but still working on getting things down with natural light. Food blogging sounds delicious (but I can imagine the trouble with the photography!) :)

She is just adorable and this is a great shot, even if captured by accident. I love how the background tones in with her skirt. Your PP is also great.

Congratulations on surviving the 1st year! I always say that the first birthday party should be a celebration for the parents more so than the child. And get ready for a very busy year 2 where you will feel like you will never get to sit down again.
