Hi,

I just got my G3 and have noticed on two occassions a purplish colored vertical line on the screen while taking photos.

I'm about to call Canon but wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this and what they might know about it.

Hope I don't have a lame camera that I have to exchange after sooo much waiting...

hmmm, really? I'll do some checking in the manual to see if I can find anything that alludes to this.

I did call Canon but customer service is not at all knowledgeable about such things. They recommended waiting until it occurs more frequently and then send it to them for repair. Not much help.

thanks Gaz

It was definately mentioned in my S30 manual.
This is a normal reaction of the ccd (or lcd) to bright light.

NGOTB,

It's on page 37 of your manual.

Notice Concerning Shooting
When using this camera to shoot scenes containing extremely bright subjects, a
vertical, red bar of light may appear on the LCD monitor. This is a normal
occurrence in devices containing CCDs and does not constitute a malfunction.
This red bar of light will not be recorded when shooting still photos, but it will
be recorded when shooting movies.
