I'm curious: why have a color checker if you're going to use tinted color anyways?

I try to practice new editing styles and post them for feedback but I do still keep all the photos with natural colors on a separate folder. The color checker is probably one of my best investments made so far. It truly makes a huge difference.

Just curious... are you a famous photographer or something? You seem to be quite confident in your ability to criticize other's work, yet haven't posted anything of your own.

I work as a consultant to photographers seeking editorial advice and have been doing that for 12 years now. I post on many boards and just give my honest feedback. I do this because I feel it is something that is severely lacking at most places. I may be blunt in my commentary but it is in the ultimate interest of helping others. I have found consistently from my experience that bluntness is considerably more useful than "that looks nice" or "good work" or "that is pretty" or "wow, you are amazing!". And, that is why people come to me (and pay me) for consultation / editorial advice.

I'm not uptight... but comments like, "I don't think you (or anyone else) would want to see me 'loosen up' on my commenting" makes it sound like he is a world renowned photographer/art critic or something... Why would we care if he quit commenting?

I'm not offended nor would I be if he criticized anything of mine... I just don't understand why he is so confident that we want him to comment on our work.

IMO, He doesn't come off nearly as blunt as he does arrogant. Sorry, just my $0.02.

I can tone down the arrogance. I agree it is not a necessary part of the equation.

See... now we have an explanation... That's all I was asking. :)

I'd care if he quit ... he was willing to suggest a potential improvement to my work. And he's confident because I said I value his critique. I'm not uptight so I don't get offended by every little nit. And I certainly don't care what his credentials are for expressing an opinion.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion ... I'm just saying that I would not deny myself valid observations because my tender ego was offended by his style ... I would feel very childish if I did so. I'm 66 with a successful photography business and have no need to be defensive. We are all friends here.

Anyway, I need to stop all this psychologizing or I'll have to report myself to a Mod.

I have to agree with Dwight and say that regardless of who views our work, isn't it important to have feedback from both good and bad photographers just as much as non photographers?

I would think that if we only cared about the opinions of only other photographers no one would be happy cause it isn't their "style". All our taste differ from one person to the next.

One thing I have noticed on this forum is that many times, folks just want to post up their photos to share. They may in fact be very proud of the shot, and in fact, they may not be looking for C&C. The forum might actually be a little more peaceful place to hang out if everybody kept that in mind ?

There are times when I ask for comments on a shot because I really am undecided on it's merits. There are other times, when I post up a shot that is done exactly how I intended it to be.

.....just sayin'.......
