David. Epic.

Can you still see out of that eye? It looks like youd be seeing blindy lights for hours.

ewheeler20 wrote in post #13248431 (external link)
wow, can you say... "flash"?

CircuitR wrote in post #13249098 (external link)
Did the flash burn your forehead?

djames wrote in post #13249305 (external link)
Love it. Love the detail of the top lashes reflecting.

Crazy_Guitar wrote in post #13249333 (external link)
Did you go blind? :D

Thanks for the comments guys. Actually the flash was on 1/32, it's so close that it was powerful enough. I would have never done that on 1/1, I would still see black spots hours later

Between, hitting focus was a real pain, every minimal movement would render the picture completely out of focus... Try holding your head still that way.. :p

Took about an hour until I had one shot I liked!

Hi, I'm David.

The more I see the 60D in action, the more I'm considering selling my 5D classic and stepping down??

I did it... No regrets... Yet

But tomorrow's wedding in a crappy-lit church will be a true test. I'm interested to see how high-ISO performance is against the 5D in real-life situations.

Me too - I went from the 7D to 60D and amazingly don't regret that either!

Not really the same as going from FF to crop... but still a downgrade (allegedly) :)

Nick; let me know what you think. I've used (as we all have) crop bodies in the past and will miss the wide side of the FF since I do a lot of car shows and don't have a lot of room to back up. However, the benefits of the 60D seem to outweigh the negatives. More pixels, vid, built in remote flash trigger, etc.

I have read this thread since it started. And I enjoy it immensely. And I'm not knocking Mike. I like the results. Only out of the 159+ pages of "Show us your setup.." just a few posts stand out where I look at them and say "where is the setup?" Mike's last post is one of them. If the Youtube video link was attached or atleast mentioned, it would be totally fine. Showing a before and after shot does not constitute "show us your set-up." Nor does throwing in a camera and tripod. Now showing someone holding a flash on a pole and stating "multiple exposures" would easily qualify. Otherwise, the post needs to be in a different thread.

 They do! ;)

Thanks MC!
I know right?

+1

I usually tell clients that "the eye is a miracle, the camera is a machine." Because there is no way to capture what something like this ACTUALLY looks like without extensive post processing.

I'm not your bud...see below

If I see one more post like this I'm going to lose it haha. I've done entire videos that show literally every single detail that go into one of these shoots, maybe one or two pages back at 50ppp.

Thanks GC! I even mentioned previously that I'd like to show more 'setup' style shots but sometimes they are not available, and I do think that people can still learn quite a bit from the before/after. I mean I could photoshop a camera on a tripod into these pics and all of a sudden they'd be okay, so just imagine that there is a camera on a tripod there and we'll be good

For wide; there's always the Sigma 8-16mm ;)

I will let you know what I think of the high-ISO later this weekend... I haven't found any reason that it's let me down yet.

I am very disappointed in the reactions of many of you who lambasted Mike Kelly for his "lack" of setup shots. This thread is not mandatory, so demanding and putting down his contribution should not be tolerated here. He has posted his "setups" numerous times with lots of explanations and question-answering posts. You all really need to calm down. If you took just 3 seconds and either looked at his signature, or just searched for his posts (or threads-started) from his profile, you would see just how much he shares his work and techniques with others.

Actually, there was only one person who did that. Everyone else kind of chuckled and moved on, because they know how much Mike does. In fact I even posted a clarification for the person. I'd reread the posts and make sure you understood what was going on before sounding off.

The reason why people are laughing is because Mike does an extensive showing of HOW it is done, apart from a picture with him on a ladder, he does youtube videos of the actual post process.

Edit. There was two people. One who only had 2 posts, so clearly a newbie, might not know better. And Mike acknowledged that people were teasing with the whole 'where's the set up' part of his post.
