Scorpion under UV light. Of course, when I actually shoot, there are no other lights on.

That's really the only down side to that. Honestly it is one hell of a subject, and I love the fluorescent making the detailing so pronounced a brilliant idea. Now thats one more thing I have to add to my shopping list.lmao

Today I had the chance to play with some studio lights. I wanted to get that halo effect around the subjects head. It took a bit of experimentation but I was pretty pleased with the results.

Unfortunately you can't see the hair light as my friend walked in front of the shot as I was taking it but you get the idea.

In LR4 the results look amazing. But after converting them to jpg I've got to admit they look rubbish to my eyes. Viewing them in Chrome or windows pic viewer they look rubbish but viewing them in the new windows 8 Photo app or on my TV they look ace. I wonder why they look so bad on my monitor. Maybe I need a better screen on my PC?
Do they skin tones look off to you guys? Does it look lacking in resolution and clarity?

You might be right about the underexposed but I was trying lots of different things to get the hair lights really OTT as it was the look I was going for.

Do they look strange to you though? I don't know how to describe it. Almost like colour banding when you've got a badly encoded video on the computer. The colours aren't smooth between the transitions. Like I said, they look good in Lightroom on my my PC but rubbish in photo viewer or chrome. It's frustrating as I know they're good shots.

Make sure you are exporting in sRGB... If you are exporting in Adobe RGB or other, it can look pretty bad...

It is exported in sRBG and about 90% quality. I find it odd how it looks great in LR4 and the Photo app in windows 8 (which I hate with a passion) but then looks rubbish in photo viewer and Flickr.

I just corrected the Gamma on my screen and it looks quite a bit better now but still not quite how I think it should/could. I feel it might be time for a new IPS screen.

If it looks good in LR4 then it's not your monitor...
