Setup is a medium lantern overhead for fill, reflector in front for more fill, and fresnel behind for the key. Scheme is designed to evoke early morning light:

RicoTudor, great set up and shot.
What are you using to attach
multiple grip heads to one light stand?

Thanks! To hang multiple lights or modifiers off a single (junior) stand, I add 4.5" grip heads. These bigger knuckles are monsters, being designed to hold butterflies. They can be stacked vertically and the Matthews version keeps the load over the stand axis (unlike the other brands). A stand with ample footprint is desirable for stability—I use the medium overhead roller shown. Product link: http://www.bhphotovideo.com …9581_Magic_Grip_Head.html (external link)

Oh, and Breaker, thanks for the sand suggestion. Will confer with the artist.

Testing of making my own ring light. Shot only using a $7 fluorescent light bulb. Hand held it and shot through the center.

Thank you. This picture I tried it with a 12" circline bulb instead of the 16". I like the 12 better.

By request of the artist, I softened shadows and changed the viewing angle. Versus the previous image, the key was changed to a small rigid box (Profoto ProBox). The face of this attachment has a 14" diagonal and light is super smooth but, for some reason, the color temperature is warmer by 600K. I balance color of key/fill in separate frames, and merge them in post. Two-light setup:

I love this! The circular catchlight isnt to my liking but the overall outcome is superb. Is that DIY ringlight the only thing lighting your subject?

That's what I was thinking too. I think it would be better suited for an older model. She's adorable, but the catchlight seems odd in those innocent eyes. Beautiful result though.

I just bought a replacement transformer and added a outlet plug to it. Yes this is the only thing lighting my kid.

I'm making a new light which will give off a different catch light. I'll post when I'm finished building it.

I think I need to add a flash to get better micro-contrast on the feathers.

Very best,
