They are unique. Did you cut the wood template yourself? I'm amazed at how soft that light is.

Yes they are. Yes I did, I was in the custom cabinet business for a few years. Its tricky to shoot I haven't gotten the hang yet lol

FWIW, though they are both great, I like the first one better. The extra light tones down the catchlights, which are very original and look great. Until they are overpowering...then they look just a little freaky. Not your daughter, she's adorable no matter what; just the very strong catchlights in the second one are a little too much.

Just my very unprofessional, n00b, couldn't-take-a-good-portrait-to-save-his-life opinion, for what it may be worth.

I agree^^^ the first one was subtle and nice, the second overpowering and distracting.

I'm glad you posted that second one, since I was wondering how it would look with the back light turned down or off.
That little girl is adorable but if the catchlights are too dominate it's just off... BUT that might be since most of us are used to seeing a certain catchlight to begin with. Show it to a non photo geek and they might love it.

I think both look nice. The first being more subtle. I like the second one and think it's cool for being an uncommon catchlight. 8-)

That or she has some Uchiha blood in her. ;-)a

What LED lights are you using? I used some LED Christmas lights for a backdrop and they flicker - not that you can see it normally but on half my shots the LEDs appear off.

I think most LEDs flicker, you see it alot in new car videos. If you maker your shutter longer than the on/off cycle of the LED it shouldn't show.
