I specialize in underwater photography and here is my rig setup for shooting in one of the cave systems I frequent. As the cave is my studio, this is the closest I can come to a setup shot. There is a Canon 70D with a Tokina 10-17 in an underwater housing. In this particular system, since the flow is so intense, I use my scooter to not only act as a pack mule for the lighting gear but also to get me in position faster. I also have two 13,000 lumen video lights we place in various area to act as fill lights for some of the larger areas.

Heya,

Had a tough one today. 2 year old. Would not cooperate at all. All the normal tricks were not working. That includes spinning her around and around until she's dizzy and won't try to run but sit a minute and giggle. Even that didn't work. She was relentless to go away from the light & camera, and face the opposite direction for 99% of everything. Very frustrating day, but she seems to have had a lot of fun. Her mother on the other hand was cussing and I was sweating to death on the ground, lol.

And so it begins! Here's my quick 2 cents....I know you take a lot of pictures of "the squirt". I was the same way with my two kids. I took 1000's of shots of them over the years as I was learning a lot of the basics. One day it was clear they'd had enough, it was over. No more cooperation They would simply ignore me when I asked them to even look in the general direction of the camera, much less smile! Bribing worked for a while, but not too long. Whats even worse is that it seemed their mission to sabotage the shot! I was fuming and livid much of the time. It was no longer fun. It became obvious that I needed mellow out with the camera. It sucked cause I enjoyed it and wanted to play with my nice gear. Alas, for the last couple years I've been very selective about when I pull out the camera gear. When I do I try to have things planned out ahead of time. It is now more of a surgical strike! Subtly is of the essence. Full on OCF is used less. It's taken some time but I think their annoyance with the camera has waned a bit They are now willing to give me a few minutes on occasion. I still get to play photography a bit and have some nice shots to show for it. So there you have it....thats my story...Just thought I'd share because I very much understand your frustration having had very similar days as the one you described.

Heya,

It's true, it's like they just know and love to see you frustrated. When I'm just using a camera and a manual lens, no lighting, and doing candids playing around, I get all the stuff I want. Whenever her mother wants us to do something setup, the kids always find a way to make it difficult. Such is life.

I'm sure one day I'll miss the frustration.

Very best,

Heya,

Testing out HSS and the Rovelight again.

Rovelight 600B with a 60" silver lined black-backed umbrella.
Cheetahstand stake-bungee'd to the ground, raised up pretty high (catches wind like crazy!).
HSS used, around 1/2 to 1/4 power.
Yongnuo Yn622's used to transmit the signals.
Camera is an APS-C, using a 10-22 lens, mostly going ultrawide 10mm~14mm to make DOF forever and make everything simple (no focusing).
Generic wireless shutter release used.

Double bungee'd to the ground with 9" nylon stakes. Held in the wind firm and I watched it wave around with confidence. Without these, it instantly wanted to take a dive.

Interesting.

BTW, my wife asked me if people still smoked pipes, I chuckled and said I knew at least one person that still did.:-D

What can I say... I was raised in and live near a fishing town on the West coast of Florida. All the old guys did it. So I grew up with it. I have a few friends local to me that are pipe smokers too. Cigars as well (not me though). Self-proclaimed beer connoisseurs too, lol.
