where did you buy this and what are they called?

Heya,

What exactly are you referring to? The quote just shows the image, not sure if you're meaning the modifier, stand, tripod, shutter release, bungees, stakes, or what? :)

Very best,

Ahh,

I got them on Amazon actually. Nothing special really just some 24" bungee cords with nylon hooks and some 9" stakes made of nylon. Cheap stuff.

Here's some links to exactly what I bought:

Stakes (1 pack of 6) (external link)

24" Bungee Cables (1 pack of 2) (external link)

And you saw how I latch it down on the center column. I drive them into the ground with my foot. Would probably be easier with a rubber mallet, but that's one more thing to carry.

I put the bungees & stakes in the counter weight bag. So they're always with me.

Very best,

Heya,

Was just playing around today with a friend and his daughter. No room or time for a strobe. So tried to make do with a speedlite and some ND filters with a wide fast lens.

2x 3 Stop ND filters (Hoya & Marumi; I notice a purple/magenta cast in the sky sometimes, yuck) for a 6 stop total ND effect.
1/200s (sync speed), F2 (wide open), ISO 100 (base).
Yongnuo 565EXII (used Manual mode and alternated between ranges of 1/2 to 1/16th power depending on how close I was).
I used a 35mm specifically so that I could still get close, giving my speedlite more advantage for output than trying to use a telephoto and having no output from the flash.

DIY ring light test

Besides needing a coat of paint I'm being told it needs a defuser ring kinda thing in front of the bulbs so that might be looked into.

Yeah, it's basically copied directly off of the member gallery, I just didn't know that they did that. Doesn't really bother me though, as it's properly credited as a featured image from the member gallery. Hrm, maybe I should consider an Instagram account. . . . . .

Nah.
