All that light, and it's just lighting the ground and the wheels and not much of the car. Also a big modifier isn't recommended since it creates big hot-spots that are more difficult to clone out as you can see in the front bumper grill. Definitely a very hard subject to light properly. https://instagram.com/shintarodesign

Jan 04, 2017 17:47 | #10429 Permanent banYou can use large modifiers, but they need to be of the right shape. 120x30 cm strip boxes or longer are the preferred tool with many car shots as their reflections can be lined with the car's 'natural' edges or lines and so look not artificial. On the contrary, umbrellas are a no-no with cars, as their ribs will produce spider-like reflections on the car and look utterly ugly and amateurish. 'The success of the second-rate is deplorable in itself; but it is more deplorable in that it very often obscures the genuine masterpiece. If the crowd runs after the false, it must neglect the true.' —Arthur Machen

Yep pretty much this, nice para but unnecessary application really; a bare speedlight would have lit that front wheel up just as well. Ryan

On the contrary, umbrellas are a no-no with cars, as their ribs will produce spider-like reflections on the car and look utterly ugly and amateurish. To add to this, the preferred tool is actually to take said strip box and light paint with it so the reflection size isn't limited to the size of the box. Creating even reflections alongside the car accenting the natural lines of the car. I'm still practicing this so it's not perfect, but here is a shot from couple nights ago. https://instagram.com/shintarodesign

I was thinking the same thing. That looks like the River Walk in San Antonio. Yes, the resulting portrait is great. Gallery

(And also make it black and white) Afterwards I saw that I got the hard shadow under my chin, should I have lowered the position of the strobes to have gotten rid of this? /Jocce
