I guess it's a matter of taste if there are no rules against it.

Lowering the light gets risky. There is nothing worse than under lighting. We tend to prefer light coming from above.

You could bring in a white reflector to fill the shadow. Since its a tight shot, the subject could hold it.

I know it's best to get foreheads as oil-free in camera as possible, but I'm curious: anyone have any particularly clever ways of correcting shiny skin like this in Photoshop?

I tend to sample the adjacent non-shiny skin, then gradually paint with very low flow until the shininess is gone but the texture is still there. I know this is Not the "right" way to do it, but when I have 30 headshots to retouch that I had to do in a hot room... it's fairly quick.

Any alternate suggestions?

When I am in a pinch, and I have to do a lot due to no make up artist, I use a Photoshop plugin called shineoff. On the default setting it works pretty well. It's not magic, but it helps.

There is also a strobe behind the chair to blow out the gray wall and make it white.

Me, with some good looking hair (won't be using this image for my badge though )
Will crop it tighter to fit the guidelines of the manufacturer of the badges.
(And also make it black and white)

For what it's worth I've never seen a corporation put any effort into the lighting setup. What you've done is miles more than anyone I've seen. I'd be looking at removing the shadow under the chin if possible. I think for badges, the strobe at the back to blow out the background and a ring light (to minimise shadows on the subject) would be all I'd use

No rule what I've found

That's why I shot with the light from above, but when I looked at the pictures afterwards, I didn't like the shadow...
But made it less visible in post

Well it's more me than the corporation that did the lighting setup They asked if I could do this, and of course I wanted to use as many of my toys as possible

A ring light would be nice, but don't have any so used What I had.

if no ring light available, I'd look at either lowering the height of your lights or using reflectors where possible

Is there any "good" ring lights that are not horrible expensive, that attaches to a 580EX?

The ringlight is not going to work well with people with glasses. Just have the subject hold a white reflector.

Yes, the reflector is easiest, cheapest (piece of white cardboard if you don't already own a reflector--but you really should own a reflector. Every photographer should get a reflector before even a flash imo).

Not to say ringlights are not cool. They are like fisheye lenses, easy to get obsessed with, lots of fun, sometimes practical and oh so easy to overuse.

you have to make them piece by piece

Pretty crude setup! Saline bag hanging form the rafter. I used white & black backdrops, Alien Bees, water with red food coloring in a martini glass. Wireless remote and about 1000 or so photos!
Maybe one of these days I can get a water drop trigger system... oh and a macro lens would be nice!

Thanks, everyone! Yeah, I wanted to grab the bridge in the background but my friend Manny got that shot and didn't want a repeat image. It was a group shoot so I just let everyone else grab shots then left to the next spot. =)
