Here is the simple setup, 2 Cheetah 9x35 strip boxes and 1 Cheetah Snub 38, I opted for a 3rd light instead of a reflector so I could adjust it, and metered it 1 stop below the other 2 lights. I kind of like the "exclamation point" catch light, I shall call it the GTM Photo catch light :p

I've seen this online a few times and decided to give it a shot today. I took 2 photos, one with the subject and one without the subject. Then I combined them in Photoshop to end up with a floating person.

I'd had the idea for this for a while, it wasn't directly my idea, someone mentioned it as part of another citrus based shoot.

In case it's not clear, its squeezing orange peel into a camping stove (what could possibly go wrong).

The final image is a composite of some of the best elements from various shots taken at mostly different shutter speeds to capture the spray and flames adequately.

Light is a 1200W PixaPro Citi600 head, 30x120 S/B + Grid behind to camera right, black foam board as background. I tried the peel in a clamp first but found hand holding it was more convenient as its only good for a couple of squeezes.

^^ I would have liked stove to be less prominent and see more of the orange peel and spray.

Agreed, the image I'd imagined was more like what you say. The reality was that the distance of the spray in relation to how much of it caught fire restricted the composition more than I expected.
