Recently I bought a Neewer LED panel (20x30cm = 8" x 12"). I cut some holes in the cover of the box it came in and glued some positioning strips on to make myself a simple slide and film digitiser. The lens used is a 50m F/1.4 @ F/8 with a 36 mm Kenko macro extension tube; manual focus - the electronic assisted MF works great - . I use the Av setting on the R5 which results in average shutter speeds of 1/200" with the panel set at 100% and 5500K colour temperature. \
It depends heavily on the quality of the film and slides - some older slides from the "sixties" are heavily discoloured. The 35mm film strips depend on the right development although in post processing a lot can be corrected.
I used to develop and print my own B/W films at the time so a lot of correction was done in the darkroom (and not in Lightroom... :) :)
The resulting images are about 5500 x 3850 pixel after cropping out the unwanted edges.

Nice project. How far is the back of the slide from the front of the LED panel? Are you using anything between the light and the slide/film to diffuse the LED light?

About 10 cm (4") and the surface of the panel is already nicely diffused. Initially I tried with the slides and film direct on on the panel but then the texture of the diffuser screen of the panel showed through. Given the shallow DOF with the optical setup the background now is totally blurred. Any "texture" in the images is due to film grain.

Say Cheese. I made this image based off of comps an art director sent me for a local cheese producer.

Profoto D2 strobe, 2' Octa, boomed overhead. Fashion gray backdrop, later altered to the school color.

This is a pre-shoot setup shot, with my assistant working with the talent to check our lighting and exposure. On the actual shot, the modifier was lower - just above subject's forehead. Sandbag position was also adjusted :).

Love the fade on his legs. It centers my eye right where you wanted it.

All I want is a 10-2000 f/0.5L with no distortion that weighs 100 grams, fits in my pocket, and costs $300. Is that too much to ask?

By chance do you have a link for the panel? I could use this.
