I have been using Topaz Denoise (32 bit) with CS5. It's not bad, but slow and cannot bundle images. My flow is Canon 1D Mark IV in RAW, open in ACR, adjust, crop, open images and then apply denoise before saving as jpeg.

So my questions are, what is your favorite NR software and why? I rarely do sharpening but what is your favorite sharpening software?

Thanks

I used to use Neat Image Pro until CS5 came out. With that said, I almost never use any NR since I moved to a 5DII. I find I can print ISO3200 shots up to 24 inches wide with no noise showing. Probably larger but I haven't tried. If I need any NR, the built in NR in ACR is very good, imo. For web, I see no reason to use NR from 5DII files.

Sharpening... I have never gotten a good handle on sharpening web sized images for Smugmug. Too much detail gets blown away when you resize a 5DII image down to 700 pixels on the long side. Flickr adds their own sharpening and they seem to do a pretty good job.

I have tried Photokit Sharpener and I liked the results, for web. The trial ended before I had a chance to send anything out for printing but on my monitor it looked like it did things quite intelligently. I'm going to try and get another trial, if possible. Nik Sharpener. I've never been completely happy with what it does. You get hue shifts and it's heavy handed, imo, even if you play around with the settings. So, as far as sharpening, I am the last person that can help you :-)

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

I use Neat Image, but i have no idea if it's any different than Noise Ninja. However, the noise reduction feature CS5 provides is perhaps the best around, although it is used during RAW (or dng) image processing.

I use Noiseware (very conservatively), and Focal Blade for sharpening.

The latter unfrequently, for special jobs only, as I like the standard sharpening in DPP quite a lot.

Since upgrading to Lightroom 3 and CS5 last year, I've found they have much improved noise handling with RAW files. Since I almost never shoot anything but RAW, I just use them most of the time. On a rare occasion, I might just use Canon DPP to deal with noise, perhaps doing some initial adjustments there too, then pass the image over to CS5 for whatever other work it might need.

For the large part, I do my sharpening in CS5. I have several different methods, depending upon the source and the intended use fo the image. The main exception is when printing thumbnail catalogs or preparing thumbnail images for online or proofing disks, in which case I'll just use the Export sharpening settings in LR 3.
