CAMERA?

I live in PR and the humidity es very high (80% or more) and one of my friends told me to store the camera and lenses out of the bag. This way it wont get fungus inside the lenses and the camera. Where do you store you equipment?

I have a Lowepro Classified 200 AW bag that I keep everything in. The only time I take out my gear is when I use it. However, I live in southern California, which is not known to be very humid. Although I would think it wouldn't be that humid inside where you live, so you should be okay storing it in whatever you carry your equipment in.

I do know some people that take out all of their gear and place it in a safe when they are not using it. They have a dehumidifier in the safe. I also know someone that keeps their camera gear in a cabinet/drawer in their bedroom and they use a small dehumidifier like this one - http://www.safeaccessories.com …0r09dl06rmnst8fgmc2v8m877 (external link).

Can I take your picture? "I'll swallow your soul!" Well, my camera will at least.

I store my stuff in a rather haphazard, strewn across my study kind of way ;)

However, humidity is not a big issue in my corner of the world so I'm not too worried about fungus.

I'm not sure about leaving your stuff out of the bag though, if your area is generally humid then out of the bag would be worse surely. Get some packets of silica gel and put them in your bag with your camera and keep the bag zipped up. Any moisture in the air in the bag should be drawn out by the silica gel.

I keep all my stuff in my gear bag. Not only does it keep it protected, but that way I can just grab it and go without worrying about forgetting something.

I'm from Malaysia, humidity is around 80-90% year round (it does get lower sometimes, but those days are just memories).

Lots of people who are worried about humidity/fungus here use 'dry boxes', like this one:

Here is a blog post (external link) from Jan Shim (photographer from my island) with some cool pictures.

I'm not sure about the availability of dry boxes in PR, but I would go ask your local camera store, or on some PR-based photo forums.

Thanks.... this looks very nice. I would check to see where can I get one.

Pacific northwest USA is also pretty humid, I keep my gear in a safe with lots of silica gel, in pelicans when I am out and about, and in lowepro AW's when the weather isn't threatening.

A pelican half full of dry rice or silica gel is a great thing to have on a long stay in a tent or camper where moisture is really a problem, I stuff the gear that needs it in one until it dries out.

try it. I found this trick from a cell phone retailer that recommends burying dunked cell phones in dry rice for a day to wick out the moisture. And unless the water came from dropping the phone in a toilet, you can have a healthy meal afterwards. If you did drop your phone in the toilet, maybe you can call out for pizza instead.
