I'd have to bring the exposure back to the point where you dont lose the edge of the cheek into the background. I get the attempt to overlight the shot, but its too much. Also it seems pretty soft, not sure if thats a processing issue or the shot.

Agreed. Also, I think BW is sometimes used just to fix a photo that isn't great. This photo could be awesome, so why not try for that (and hence, go for colour).
