I have a 17-40 L lens which I paid peanuts for because of this problem. It was one of those situations where I'm wondering if I should have, or if its actually worth the $100 I spent. . . As far as I know its not a result of water, or being dropped.

The lens works fine at f/4, perfectly. Nice and sharp and just as its supposed to work, but thats the only f/ stop it works on. Any other aperture setting and the camera give me a err 99 message. Its not the camera as it works great with my 50 1.8, and my 85 1.8. I've cleaned the connections on both camera and lens. I'm wondering, have any of you experienced this problem? Do you have any idea what it might be and how much it'll cost to get fixed?

Stuck aperture blades... I would guess $200-300 to fix it..? Call Canon, they'll give you an estimate.

And if you get it fixed for 300 you have only paid two quarters of the price. Pretty good deal.

Two quarters = A half then ¼ + ¼ = ½
