Pro studios makes a 6' octa bro LOL. Pro studios is the name of the company which makes my strip box. Inthink you miread my post. I would never compare a stripbox to an octa. One is used as a main amd the other is not. Common sense stuff Tom

akfreak wrote in post #12114749 (external link)
A strip bank is way different than a 5 foot Octa. I was referring to a Large light source, comparing a strip box with a 5 foot Octa is like trying to compare a dinner napkin on a Cereal box to a Bed sheet over a Bay Window.:p

Price an Octa bank, tell me what the cheapest you can find for 5' Pro Octa bank not a flea bay one. But one made by what is used in the industry, A Westy, or Photoflex.

Also what Pro strip boxes do you use? I dont know any that come with a grid for $200. Heck the grids on a Westy are $200 alone, this is why I dont own them. the price is retarted for what you get IMO.

Westcott 5 ft. Octabank
Style: 3662
Retail: $463.50 no speed ring

Photoflex Medium 5 foot OctoDome
SKU: FV-MOD5
MSRP: $524.95
No speed ring

Octa banks Like the 7" foot ones are $800 or so. It is perfect window light. Want to be an expert with Lighting use a 7 foot octa.

I didnt see what Pro strip boxes you use? I love strips. I dont own any. I just use some bungie cords around my soft boxes to make a narrow slit, it works the same. As to the grids I have them for my Small, Med and Large Q-domes. Speedotron boxes as well. My Apollos dont offer a grid but they are ulta portable so I like them.

I haven't got to use my 86" PLM yet, I hear it is a nice soft light, we will soon see. Last thing. If my wife said I can only keep one modifier it would be the 60" convertible umbrella. It will do most everything, even control spill and act like a softbox! For $29 bucks the Impact 60" convertible is hard to beat (external link) If you can get one, Always in Back Order.

The last modifiers I want to get are as follows
2 12×50″ Westcott Stripboxes w/ grids. Grid alone is $288 (external link) at B&H the strip is $196 (external link) that is $484 for a single strip bank, I need to. And I dont want Visco, Knova, or Some stuff like that I want to buy them one time, you know what I mean right? So I do without for now.
1 22″ Speedo Beauty dish with sock and 30º grid
1 7′ Westcott 7′ Octabank and I will have everything as far as modifiers. I will only need one or more Speeo Blackline packs. Maybe another 805 or 1205 and a 405. I have all the heads I could ever use!

Going to the city for my spring break. Can I get the TOP 3 MUST GO TO spots for some photos?

+1
I am going to Las Vegas May 13-15. My business is all day Saturday, the 14th. I am intentionally getting an early flight on the 13th and late flight on 15th so I have those days to "play". I don't know about kevincinco but my interests lie primarily with landscapes. I will probably want to rent a car and go out to desert.

OT, but I would also be interested in any website has a listing of all the shows going on for Friday/ Saturday night.

there are way to many shows to list for those nights. Keep it simple and watch a cirque de soleil show. I was director of entertainmemt for years with mgm mirage and ive seen thrm all including the newest one at city center. It will always be a decent show. Also for landscapes take a hiking day out to red rock as mt. charleston will have snow till may so you may want to avoid those trails.

Tom,

Is this what you meant by erasing or masking the model from the texture?

I mean apply the texture on the image but dont let it affect the subject in an unflattering way. So if the texture applied to the face of a model is what your mind envisions then by all means use them as you wish. I am not trying to say anything special. I say use them as you please. Btw nice work. wouldn't change a thing. AKf

Drew, the only thing I would change on ur last posted image is her right arm, left for us, and also her feet. It's ghosting the bg: translucent.

Otherwise, great image!

I think what Tom was saying by masking the model is overlaying pp on models to make it an aged look, but only making the bg "aged".

Anyone here shoot tethered in the studio? If so I am looking for a homemade solution to mount a laptop on a tripod or light stand. I have seen all of the high-end stuff from Gitzo the like the Gitzo GO65 laptop platform (external link) for $100 (seems everything is always a Hundo) Edit; I found another arm called theManfrotto 131DB and it is $79 bucks (external link) Still not cheap but less than $130. Also I have seen the Manfrotto 131DDB cross bar ($130). I did find somthing that I may be able to use as part of my Rig it is from IKEA called a DAVE Laptop table (external link) for $17 bucks. It has a tube that will adjust height and maybe some Velcro to keep it from sliding off. Also I did find a Nice little platform from flash point (external link) for $29 bucks.

So I am wanting feedback from you guys that may have already overcome this hurdle, I want to be able to start using a laptop for Tethering. Look at what this website (external link) (Tethertools.com) wants for it's "TetherTable" what a joke "Available in 2 stunning colors, brushed silver and non-reflective caviar black" Cant they say Comes in Brushed Aluminum and Black. Never heard of Caviar Black, lol it seems every where you turn someone is selling some gizmo or gadget that all cost way way too much.

I hope some of you here have a solution, if not then I guess you can see what kind of rig I come up with. My budget is $25 bucks. LOL

Sorry guys you have to see this turd, aLastolite EzyView Sunshade (external link), I see these at the Dollar Store as a hamper. You might have to spray paint them black but wow Another Hundo up in smoke. What is going on in the Photog world, who is buying this junk? That thing would overheat your laptop in the Desert in less than 5 mins I would say, LOL

3 days later and everyone is still puttin up great shots! Bryc, I was waiting to see how that shot came out, awesome!

The wheels in my head are already turning for the next shoot..ha!ha!ha! So if anyone has an idea, hit me up. Also, I'll get more pics up soon. Between 2 jobs and running a business, I only have an hour or so a day to myself, which doesn't leave me much time to pp.
