You do realize the 60d would be much better suited for video right? I mean magic lantern already has the firmware for the 60d and they never even made it for the 7d. Articulating screen and a glidecam would set u off. Then sell the 7d for a 5d mkII or mk3 which is what I did.

i do realize that...but at the same time, i want a full frame when im not using it for video.

.....Now as for stills the MKIII will have no equal just like the MKIII

are you talking about 1Ds3 or 5D3? im lost!

I say if video is your game then get the Rebel. The T3i (save $$$ and buy Glass) has the digital zoom feature in video, which allows for nice smooth zooms while filming. It shoot 3.7 frames per second and It has a pentamirror viewfinder with 95% coverage of the actual resulting image.

Also if Video is your gig you might want to look as the GH2 and GH1 that hack the piss out of it and it is doing Red One level of work. PL mount glass is what you want for Cine. But here is something to consider. If you cant do good post work in Photoshop, then After effects (just got updated to CS5.5 3 days ago), Primer Pro then seriously all of the magic lantern firmware in the world wont help you.

The 7D with custom Picture styles has a Ton of dynamic range, the MKII smokes it in noise performance in low light, it''s the Huge sensor. Magic lantern makes it easy to record Audio in the camera. Any Pro knows to do Audio right you have to get it off camera and use a separate Audio guy, use the camera mic for scratch audio. If you plan to shoot video with a dslr, you need to build a rig. No way can you get professional results with a camera in your hand you have to build a rig. The 60D is really nice, If it was the chit I would own it! (waiting for the 5d MkIII to come out I will have it the first day) The Only thing, I mean the Only thing I like about the 60d is the articulating screen, that is it.

7D build hands down kills it. As to the Magic lantern no loss there, AGC so use the in came mike for scratch audio, who cares about clamping, not going to use it any way.

A little hint about video, it is about Audio, the better the audio the better the video, Stroy and good sound make a video. A bad video capture can be achieve greatness if it has good sound and a good story. Good Audio comes from a sound guy. I say 7d for 5dii, or gh1 or AF-100. Dont take my word for it, read and see the results.

In Canon it is all about custom picture styles to get Dynamic Range out of the sensor, The stock picture styles in camera are Horrid for Dynamic range. No Dynamic range= hard to fix in post. Notice how movies or video have a consistent look and feel, this is all done in post. You need to capture as much range as possible, if the highlights are blown then you are done, no fixy. Over 2 stops under, Opps ruined again. A taste on how to increase Dynamic range of a 7D (external link) using picture styles. Already known stuff to many, may be new to some of you so I'll share it anyway.

I have been following a man namedPhillip Bloom (external link) He is the man to show you what you need for video.

Video is a whole new world from stills. The names of everything is way different. Example in Photography a stand to place your camera is called a tripod, in video circles it is called "Sticks"

If you want to get serious abut video using a dlsr you better be ready to spend some Money, A good fluid head and set of sticks cost ore than a camera. Cine lenses cost so much they are rented not owned. All professorial Video production cost so much, people rent the gear. Then the Photographer becomes a director and hires a camera man, a sound guy, and an art director who has all the connections to make or break a project.

Watch a these clips from creative live by Vincent Laforet first course clip (external link) and second one more in depth Moving from a Still Photog to Video (external link) (awesome stuff).

If you follow his blog he will teach you what you need to know to shoot video with a dslr. Remember I said PL mount lenses for Cine, Look at his latest blog entry (external link) Canon announced 2 new PL mount Cine lenses. Can you say 5d mkIII does PL mount, LOL

Buckle up, never been a better time to be a creative than now. I am 90% ready to put all of my talents together, Motion graphics, Video, and Photography. I am going to open a studio. I am going to create all the stuff that is trapped in my mind. Been training for 20 plus years. I am so close, watch and see, guys. I promise I will surprise all of you.

Fortunately enough, I have friends that will back me up. Like I said, this will be a collaboration. Script is almost ready, I have PAs (when I need them), I have a graphics editor, and most importantly a backer.

Whatever it is that you're going to do, I'm pulling for you mang! So in the future I could say, I know that guy! Let that creativity go loose and blindside everyone with ur work!

so, the thing is, a month ago i almost have the funds for a 5D2 and i see 5D2's in the price range that im looking for. Even Canon Direct store has it. Now, after saving for a few months and i have the money for a used or refurbished 5D2, i cant find any!

This sucks. im set to get a 5D2 and now, Canon doesnt have any used or refurbished units. To get a brand new unit would be another couple of paychecks. This kind of things always happen to me...just my luck.

how about craigslist, one is up for sell.

Still going back and forth on 60D and 5d2, the biggest thing that detracts me from 60D is the SD cards. I sold all my SD cards...now I have to buy them again. Story of my life.

LOL... SD cards are so cheap your big dealing the smallest detail. Remember the 5d2 has a rebel AF system with only 1 cross type. You will also notice that the 60d has a more consistent AF in comparison to the 5d mkII. Id go with a 60d for now as its so inexpensive to hold you over. Then sell it once the new 5d gets released and after its first run initial problems are sorted out like my 7D's had/have. Watch out though you may find out you like shooting portraits more with the 60d as its sharper out the box and cleaner in noise than the 7D. Remember I own both and speak from experience and not just online mumbo jumbo. Ive also owned 2 7d's (3 if you include the replaced one) If you dont believe me take mine out for a day of shooting dan.

Dont get me wrong for shooting sports on a budget Id always use the 7D.

Shot this with the smart phone....

I might take u up on that offer! yeah, that's true, SD cards are cheap in comparison to cf cards. I can buy a 32gb SD to a 16gb cf. Only thing is that's cutting on my budget for other stuff like external mic and tripods with fluid heads.

At bry, yeah, I'm the same way. I've read about it and it is like a twin brother to the 7d, but 7d went to the gym and 60d went to school!

I have to research some more.

pulled the trigger on 60D, so while waiting for it to arrive....reading up and learning more about video.

Hopefully Magic Lanterns comes out with a FW for 7D and 60D, coz if not, i have to buy a Zoom H4N and sync audio and video at post. But if they do have FW for both bodies, it would be cool, I would just need to buy external mics for both.
