I'm looking to buy a new 5D and I'm seeing some crazy deals on the internet right now for 5D mark II. Thunder Camera, Onpoint electronics, stores i havent heard of are selling these things at $1300 to $1900 dollars. Are these stores too good to be true? Anyone here ever buy an SLR from a little known internet site and gotten a great deal. Just curious is the price range is consistent with market.

Anything that is cheap, please beware. Might be a grey sets or some con-man job. Always buy from reputable stores. Cheap doesn't means it a good deal.

Yeah I got red flags from some of these sites. Seemed like quick /cheap web sites. But man wouldn't it be nice :)

Was just wondering if anyone has ever had a good experience from some of these little known sites.

I'd never heard of them, so I visited Thunder Camera to check out their deals. They list the 5DmkII body at $2699 - that's no bargin. I saw it on the Costco site last week for $2399, Amazon has it for $2499.

Hey Rick,

you may have been looking at one of their "kit" deals. See link below. About halfway down the list is a new 5D body only for $1600. There's like 20 different kit deals. . . all super cheap it seems. .

And heres the actual page with a bunch of kits listed.

There really arent that many "deals" to be had. Margins on equipment are tight so your best bet is a time when Canon offers rebates. Placed like b&h buy in the largest volume. How can a small dinky store compete.

Look at it this way: If Amazon, Cameta, Adorama and B & H are all selling as many as they can get their hands on for $2,400, why would anyone sell it for that much less? If they beat that price by just $50 they'd have plenty of business. Total scam.

Well, I have to ask - if Canon is selling them direct as refurbs for $1999, why would anyone buy new for $300-600 more? Don't the refurbs come with the same warranty?

My tentative view on refurb is that they might be even better than new since they've been QC'd by Canon twice - once new, once when they came back - and the 2nd time might have been even more strict to make sure it doesn't come back yet again.

Opinions? I'm thinkin' I'd rather have refurb and another lens then just a new body that I'm going to turn into a used one the first day anyway...
