Bored waiting for the big iron to come through, I sometimes pick up a few pickups. For the guys who thought we only had MOPARs up here! ;)
Some worked out OK, & some didn't.

Very nice-especially 1, 5 and 6. They're relatively sharp and the blur seems appropriate for the speed.

All of them are under exposed, and none of them are really sharp.

All of them are under exposed, ...

1st, did you notice that they have their lights on? These are what is referred to as "Day for night", as in shoot before it's completely dark so you have some highlights in the body, & then bring down the black end of Curves to get more of a night effect. The whole effect would be lost if they were what we think of as properly exposed, no? Properly exposed is what you need for a particular image IMO.

2nd, just as an aside, have you calibrated your monitor and your browser? If you haven't done both, then what you're seeing is most likely not what some of the rest of us are seeing.
René's thread w/link to my calibration threads:
Color problems? [work in progress?]

...and none of them are really sharp.

That's true, & it was done on purpose. The idea is to have the front sharp & the back blurred when a big rig comes along. I haven't managed to get what I want yet, which is frustrating but kind of fun. This thread explains what I was going for: Late evening motion shots - mostly trucks.

As I said at the beginning, "Some worked out OK, & some didn't." For instance, I like the lights & the blowing snow in #4, but the pickup is way too sharp for the effect that I want. So is #3 in the link I posted above.
#7 is better.
#3 would be perfect if the front was sharper & the pickup was a nicer color. #2 in the link I posted above would be almost perfect except for the effing real estate sign & a slightly sharper front end. Too bad, the colors in it work for me.

So I'll keep shooting & waiting for the right big rig to come along. It's a good Winter project & keeps me out of trouble. ;)

Thanks for the comments, everyone!

There's quite a difference between looking dark and being dark -- and these just simply are dark. Having a picture of black doesn't look like night, it looks like under-exposed. If you want a "night"-looking shot you need to not have shadows from the sun plus a cool white balance, not underexposure.

Your trucks look very blurry (not soft but blurry) because your shutter time is simply too long -- 1/20 is going to be very tough to shoot panos in. 1/30 is better (your shot #5) and 1/45 will be better still for keeping the vehicle sharp while still retaining the pan.

you always say to shoot a car at a time when its going to look its best so these are breaking your own rules. they are underexposed which makes them look way too dark. i like the pans. its just too dark.

See the links on the bottom of YOUR sig and...

It's always nice to see a well reasoned comment. I usually leave these up for a time when other people can learn from them.

Here's a quick quiz: Which three forum rules did you break?

1. Don't quote the original post with all photos,

2. Don't use someone elses photo? (your welcome to trans.)

3. Don't talk smack about Frank?

Haha, To tell you the truth, I was thinking about doing the same thing, but someone beat me to it. :p touché soderdna

Good call on the first two, Alex.

3. Don't talk smack about Frank?

It's more general than that. It's the "don't be a jerk"provision. ;)
Opinions & comments are always welcome, but we need to respect Pekka's line or this forum will become like many others.
