Just used g12 with pocketwizard flex and mini and a 580exii
and it looks promising.
Does the G12 have a way to adjust flash exposure compensation from the camera
or do I have to do it at the flash?

Flash exposure compensation can be done from the G12 for the built-in flash and direct mounted Canon flash but I don't know if that adjustment is transmitted by the new Pocketwizard system.

OK. Just looked up the controls, page 110 in the manual.
I need to give them a whirl with the PW's...

How are you using flex & mini pw's with the g12? PW site states the the G-Series is not compatible with the Flex nor the Mini. And since the TTL implementation in the G-Series is not identical to the EOS, some of the Canon Flash features are not available when using it with the G-Series cameras...even when it's directly on the camera. With the G-series, I've only seen wireless ETTL done with the STE2 or an additional Canon flash on the G12 itself.

With that said, if you can share how you've done this, I'd really appreciate your tutelage. Are u just using it as basic 'dumb' trigger, as an RF-602, like the old PW would be used? Meaning, manual flash & no ETTL? If the ETTL can be used. this is exciting- but if it means using those beautiful Flex's as a Chinese radio trigger- then that's one insanely expensive trigger! :)

I have some trusty Yongnuo RF's (2.4Hz triggers). Less than $100 for 4 Rx's and 2 Tx's. And they have been 99.94% reliable- I've used them for about 2 years now- I use them when ETTL is not possible, or not needed- They absolutely rock, but again, no ETTL, just 'dummy' triggering. But I've been using PW Flex's far more often...for obvious reasons. I use my flex's with canon flash's every day, and with the new AC9's, they are the golden, but that's with EOS only.

I love'd my G11 so much, that I recently updated it to the G12. But I can't get ETTL from the G12 to the 580EX2 when using PW Flex's. Could you plz share how you did it?

When mounting my Canon 420 or 580 flashes to the G12, none of the "extra" features I'm used to with the EOS SLRs are available with the flases mounted on the G12 (won't even meter when pointed up to bounce and a diffuser really messes up the metering, too). It functions only as a more powerful, non-adjustable flash without compensation that's rather unweildy. I'm going to stick to the internal flash on the G12 and, if more is needed, pull out the EOSs and my studio lights...

Are you basing this experience on shooting in manual exposure mode from the G12? If so, I agree and wish, wish, wish that Canon would upgrade the G12 flash feature set. But you should be able to use flash exposure compensation in P, Tv and Av modes.

I did a comparative set of shots with my G9 and posted the results on my blog at http://lightdescription.blogspot.com …lash-compensation-in.html (external link)
