Looking for info on Gitzo 1541T tripod used with Acratech GP-s Ballhead. How far down do the legs collapse when folded on this ballhead? Completely?

Apparently, the 'S' version of the GP ballhead was redesigned with a smaller base for tripods such as this.

Anyone using this setup? Anyone with a picture?

This is from the Acratech website. It might be a 1541T.

Just out of curiosity why would you pick this head over the tried and true and designed for the 1541T Markins Q3T?

+1

and again, easier to clean. I shoot at the beach and around salt water a lot. It's very nice to be able to hose the head off. Their warranty is also amazing, mine got salt inside the base and it's bushings, sent it in, ZERO QUESTIONS, they rebuilt the entire base with new parts for free. Only cost me shipping to them.

My 2531 sports a GP head, so having a GP-s would make the controls more intuitive.

Hi everyone,

here are some pictures of my 1541T and a Acratech GP-s mounted upside-down:

As you can see the legs do not fit completely. It is the same with the GP-s in normal orientation.

I have been hiking some National Parks in the Southwest last October with this equipment. For me it has been the the perfect combination of low weight, small size and the ability to shoot single-row panoramas.

Isn't the Markins Q3T rated for 65 Lbs load over the ~25lbs or so on the Acratech?

I understand that the ratings are just as good as EPA estimates for gas mileages on new cars, but that would be a constant in both cases unless one is peak versus another is sustained or some such rating method difference!

Not questioning the Acratech robustness, but more capacity ??? probably not!

The other points in favor of the Acratech make sense.

I will be looking for a ball head soon which is why more thoughts would be appreciated.
